On the Ground in Haiti

A week after Hurricane Matthew ravaged Haiti, Heart to Heart International is in full disaster response mode. Never has HHI responded so quickly. We are mounting a massive response, with 6 mobile medical teams on the ground, seeing hundreds of patients each day. Each team of 8-10 people consists of doctors, PA's, NP's, nurses, EMT's,and paramedics, and social workers. The logistics support required for each team is enormous.

Tragically, Cholera has broken out, and our teams are seeing more and more Cholera patients each day. The death toll is rising, and could run into the thousands.

The UN and the Government of Haiti has made the containment of Cholera its highest priority, and Heart to Heart International is being asked to take on a major role. Haiti had been divided up into Cholera treatment regions, and HHI is being assigned the entire SE of Haiti, where we have worked intensively since the 2010 earthquake.

In addition, we are being asked to establish a Cholera Treatment Unit (cholera hospital) in a community near Jeremie, Haiti, which bore the brunt of Hurricane Matthew. We have agreed to take on this huge responsibility, but this will take the major support of our many friends to make this happen.

Please share this with your friends, and consider making an online donation by going to http://HeartToHeart.org/donate.

The people of Haiti thank you, and I thank you!
